HOOKED
ON OILSOIL PAINTING FOR BEGINNERS: Whether youre new
to oil painting, or just getting back into it after many years,
this is the class for you! This oil painting class starts with
the basicstypes of brushes and their use and care, differences
in transparent and opaque paints and the techniques that go along
with those paint properties, use of color, composition, values,
edges etc. This class is geared to help you find teachers that
will fit your painting style and hasten the time it takes to learn
this wonderful medium. All supplies are includedbrushes,
paints, even the paper towels! And, if you find yourself Hooked
on Oils, youll have the supplies and skills necessary
to enjoy painting for years to come! This class is taught by Becky
Whitney. Four sessions are offered: Jan 4,11,18,25 or Feb 1,8,15,22
or Mar 2,9,16,23 or April 6,13,20,27. Time 6:00-8:00 p.m.. Cost

GRADUATES
OILS: This oil painting class is for those having done the beginners
course Hooked on Oils. Having learned the terminology
and techniques discussed in the beginning oil painting class,
youll feel comfortable and speed your painting progress
as you continue using those skills in the challenges of other
paintings. Jan 5,12,19,26 or Feb 2,9,16,23 or Mar 1,8,15,22 or
April 5,12,19,26.. Time is 6-8:00 p.m. Cost is $100.
LANDSCAPE
TECHNIQUES: Have you ever gotten "stuck" on certain
aspects of your painting? Are you wondering how to keep rocks
from turning into potatoes and other problems? This class will
focuse on solving those with brush techniques as well as studying
the 4 values inherent in the landscape and how they change with
weather conditions and seasons. Date February 2,3. Time 10:00-4:00.

OIL
PAINTING WITH SAM LAWLOR: Sam Lawlor is known for his rural scenes
usually including women, children, horses etc. Students taking
his classes are usually intrigued with his use of color and impasto
painting techniques and this 4-day workshop allows plenty of time
to explore those with his guidance. Dates are January 12,13,19,20
or February 9,10,16,17 or March 23,24,30,31 or May 3,4,5,6.. Time
10:00-4:00. Cost $150.
COLOR
THEORY FOR OIL PAINTERS: Mixing color can be one of the biggest
struggles of oil painting. What colors to include on my palette?
How do I avoid making mud? How can I know what to
mix to get the color I want every time? Yellow and Blue dont
necessarily make green! This is a confusing subject, but can be
made simple, allowing you to mix the right color every time. This
class will help to answer your questions about color and color
mixing and create cheat sheets that you will rely
on for the rest of your painting life. Date: March 8,9,10. Time
is 10-4:00. Cost is $100.
OIL
PORTRAITS FROM PHOTOS: Becky Whitney teaches this class designed
to take the fear out of portrait painting. Theyre easier
than you think! Becky will show you how to mix all flesh tones
from just 4 basic colors and how to accurately measure the features
to get a likeness. Snapshots and professional photography photos
have some specific challenges to painting them and these will
be discussed to help you choose (or know how to fix) photos so
your portraits will appear lifelike. Suitable for beginners. This
class is perfect for giving you the basics for Julie Roger's class
in late April! Dates: February 18,19 or April 6,7.. Time is 10:00-4:00.

PAINTING
THE COSTUMED MODEL: Del Parsons will teach this class at his home
and studio in Cedar City with the options of having models in
outdoor settings or the comfort of the studio in the event of
inclement weather. Live models will be used and study will focus
on the lighting conditions of the outdoor portrait vs. those of
the indoor portrait. Date: May 18,19,20. Time 10:00-4:00. Cost:
$300. LIMIT: 8 students.
STILL
LIFE WITH OILS OR PASTELS: If you truly want to learn to paint--still
life is where you do it! This is where you learn to "see"--temperatures,
perspective, colors--all are there and this is where you learn
to see them and paint them. Date January 21,22 or March 16,17.
Time 10:00-4:00. Cost $100. Taught by Becky Whitney
PAINTING
A DAY-(OILS) In the last few years, there has been a movement
by artists for doing "a Painting a Day". This helps
them to get lots of "brush mileage" and further their
skills very quickly. In that theme, we have blocked out several
Saturdays to do this same thing. Becky Whitney will take you step-by-step
through a painting which you will finish in that one-day session.
During the process, we will also be discussing the why's, how's
and many other things that will speed you along in your artistic
progress! The schedule will be as follows:January 9th kicks it
off with a landscape. Jan 30--Still Life, Feb 6--Landscape, Feb
13--Still Life, Mar 13--Landscape, March 27--Still Life. Time
10:00-4:00. Cost $50 each session.
SMALL
PAINTINGS WITH MAURINE HARRIS : Maurine Harris teaches this class
for those who wish to spend a day painting for the sheer joy of
painting. The demo will be in oil, but you may bring your watercolors
or acrylics. We will spend some time learning about composition
in a small format and the simplicity or complexity (if you wish)
of painting small. Bring your favorite brushes and colors and
be prepared to paint with color, intuition and enthusiasm! These
paintings can be done in 30 minutes to 1 hour on a 6x6 or 6x8
canvas. Two sessions are offered: Feb 8 or May 10. Time 10:00-4:00.

JULIE
ROGERS OIL LANDSCAPES: This will be an indoor class using photographs.
Study with Julie learning how she uses the lush brushwork and
loose style she's known for. Learn how to use temperatures in
the landscape to make your paintings "sing". Dates:
April 20,21. Time 10:00-4:00. Cost: $150.
JULIE
ROGERS OIL PORTRAITS: Julie has done many portraits! Those familiar
with her religious paintings and murals will not want to miss
this 2-day class studying portraits with Julie. This class will
be done from photographs so bring photos you've been wanting to
paint and have a great workshop learning from this fun teacher!

PAINTING WITH MAX MONTIERTH: Max paints in the Classical style
with underpaintings and glazes creating a very different look
from the Impressionistic style offered in Sam Lawlor's class.
Take both classes to be proficient in both or to discover your
preferred method. Or just enjoy furthering your talents in this
Old Master style. Dates: Feb 23,24,25,26 or May 11,12,13,14. Time

AND PLAY: MIXED MEDIA EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN WITH LOLA KRUMMENACHER
AND GIAN FERRARI: This class is for beginners, intermediates and
advanced artists. Learn formatting and design principles with
elements that will give you the foundations for more sucessful
paintings in any media. Class will start with Abstract design
and move toward representational. You'll get great results whether
you are a proficient artist or have never painted before! Dates:
January 4,12,18,25 or April 5,12,19,26. Time 10:00-1:00. Cost

WATERCOLOR
FLORALS: Lola Krummenacher and Gian Ferrari teach this 3-day workshop
focusing on floral painting using watercolor. Watercolor is the
perfect medium for capturing the transparent qualities in flowers
and with this team-up of instructors, you will get plenty of hands-on
instruction! Date: March 1,2,3. Time 10:00-4:00. Cost $150.
PORTRAITS
IN WATERCOLOR: At the request of many, we've scheduled a 3-day
workshop to help you perfect your techiques of painting the portrait
in watercolor. It's not as hard as you think and with the team-up
of both Lola Krummenacher and Gian Ferrari as teachers, you'll
have plenty of help to become proficient in watercolor portrait
painting once and for all! Dates: April 14,15,16. Time 10:00-4:00.

SHERI
CANNONS BEGINNER WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP: This popular teacher
with endless skills and patience will be teaching a watercolor
workshop for beginners to intermediates. Sheris class is
one that makes everyone want to take up watercolor! Her techniques
for making aspens, rocks, trees etc are easy, quick and effective.
Watching her classes gets everyone enthused to try watercolor
for themselves or, if theyre already experienced, try some
of her methods on quick studies or cards to send. Date:Jan 14,15
or March 18,19 . Each two-day workshop is $75. Time is 10:00-4:00
with a break for lunch.
SHERI
CANNON INTERMEDIATE WATERCOLOR SAND, SURF AND TROPICAL PALM TREES:
Sheri Cannon will teach this two-day watercolor workshop focusing
on seascapes. Study of waves, surf, palm trees and anything else
relating to the sea and shore. Our gallery might not be in Hawaii,
but after this workshop, you'll be able to paint your favorite
tropical paradise! Dates:Jan 28,29 or March 25,26. Time 10:00-4:00
with a break for lunch. Cost is $75.
WATERCOLOR
WITH ROLAND LEE: This watercolor class is for those having some
previous watercolor experience. Basic knowledge of controlling
the watercolor medium will be assumed so class time can be spent
on furthering your skills using such concepts as negative space,
temperatures and values, in-depth study of water, trees, and other
aspects of the landscape. Workshops are two daysJan7,8 or
Feb 4,5. Roland will teach drawing along with painting in his
April 8,9 workshop (See below for his drawing class.) Cost is
$150 per workshop. Time is 9:00-4:00 p.m.

DRAWING
WITH ROLAND LEE: You've seen his sketchbooks and the magazine
articles written about him--now it's your turn to come take this
drawing workshop and learn how he uses quick drawing techniques
to capture his thoughts and feelings regarding a place for painting
in his studio. Good drawing is the basis for good painting. Learn
to draw with power by using the values we see in nature. Each
student will be given a sketchbook and 6B pencil for this class.

PASTELS
PASTEL
PAINTING : Becky Whitney will teach this class. This class will
explore the different types and brands of pastels, the different
papers and boards available for painting surfaces, cover how/when
to blend, and many other aspects of using pastels as a painting
medium. This class would be great preparation for the Colleen
Howe workshop in April.. Learn how to use this wonderful medium
that is perfect for drawing or painting! Date Feb 11,12. Time
10:00-4:00. Cost $100.
PASTELS
WITH COLLEEN HOWE: Paint the Red Rocks with this workshop scheduled
to be held both outdoors and in the studio. Colleen has been in
many prestigious galleries and museums as well as write-ups in
many national magazines. This is a great opportunity to study
with her in some of the most beautiful country in the world! Date:
April 28,29,30. Time 10:00-4:00. Cost: $250.
RICHARD MCDANIEL IS RETURNING!! You've read his
book "On LocationPlein Aire Painting in Pastel"now
it's your chance to take a workshop with this amazing man! This
will be a studio workshop with the option of taking it outside
and implementing the principles learned in class. Students can
use oils or pastels for this workshop. Samples of Richard's works
can be seen in his books, at the gallery or on his website. Dates
are October 18-22. Time is 9:00-4:00 with an hour break for lunch.
Cost is $500.
